TITLE: Venue Assistant
SUPERVISOR: Assistant Director of Operations
STARTING RATE: $8.00 hr |
| POSITION SUMMARY:
A Venue Assistant is responsible for providing on-site assistance for major and
mega events in the Johnson Center, primarily, and Student Union facilities.
This position requires flexible working hours ranging from 7am-11pm Sunday
through Thursday to 7am-2am Friday and Saturday, and a working knowledge
of computer and technical equipment. The Venue Assistant position reports
directly to the Assistant Director of Building Services who provides event
oversight in the Johnson Center and Student Union facilities. |
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Meet with the organization or group prior to the start of the event
to ensure that the facility is set-up properly and that all requested equipment
and services are in place.
- Ensure the in-house systems, audio visual equipment and lighting levels,
are set correctly and functioning properly.
- Provide training to presenters and organizations regarding the use
of the equipment and its capabilities.
- Ensure safety by monitoring the capacity of the event space and
working collaboratively with the group or organization, Operations
staff, and
Campus Police.
- Provide advice and judgment regarding venue capabilities and available
resources for this and future events.
- Act as a liaison between the group or organization and university
support services (i.e. Events Management, Catering, Operations,
Housekeeping, Campus
Police, and Physical Plant).
- Provide assistance to ensure that the event is as successful
as possible while enforcing facility and university policies
and procedures.
- Report facility and event issues and concerns to the Assistant
Director of operations following the event.

| QUALIFICATIONS:
1. The ability to work independently and take initiative.
2. The ability to work with patrons and staff members of diverse backgrounds.
3. The ability to operate audio visual and basic in-house systems or the aptitude
to learn quickly.
4. The ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and verbally.
5. The ability to work a flexible schedule that will include late nights and
or weekends.
6. The ability to maintain at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA |
