Departmental Policies

Facilities Management Information

Student Centers are busy facilities that offer a variety of services and programs. Your office plays an important role in presenting a welcoming and safe environment to our patrons. We are asking for your assistance and support in working to maintain inviting and student friendly facilities. For more detail click here.

Easel Reservations 

Easels required for use in meeting rooms must be reserved through Events Management when reserving meeting room space. Easels desired for common areas, such as the atrium of the Johnson Center or lobby areas of the Student Union I or II, for the purpose of advertising an event must be reserved through the appropriate building supervisor.

To reserve designated areas in the Johnson Center, Student Union I or II, please complete request form in the Student Centers (Johnson Center, Room 324) or download form here.

Keys 

George Mason University employees and student leaders housed in an area in the Johnson Center, Student I or II that require access by a university key must complete a Key Issuance Form specifically for the Johnson Center, Student Union I and II. The form must be submitted to the Student Centers, Room 324 Johnson Center to acquire facility management approval prior to submitting form to Key Control. External key requests will require an additional approval of the Senior Vice-President after facility management approval is acquired. Student leaders must be on an approved list signed by the President or Vice-President of the organization prior to submitting individual key request to the Studentt Centers Office.

Omni-Lock Codes 

Omni-Lock Codes for faculty and staff. Faculty and staff housed in Student Union I requiring an omni-lock code for building access must make your request to the Associate Director of Operations and Event Services or please call (703) 993-2921.

Omni-Lock Codes for student leaders. Student leaders housed in Student Union I or Johnson Center, requiring an omni-lock code for office access, must make their request to the Student Activities Office located in Student Union I, lower level.

Work Requests 

Work requests for general facility/office maintenance or kitchen equipment repair in the Johnson Center should be directed to the Student Centers located in the Johnson Center, Room 324. Tenants housed in Student Union I or II should direct work requests to the building supervisor of that building. For your convenience, please use our online form that will be emailed to the appropriate team members. Departments filing work request directly with Physical Plant Work Control may be held responsible for costs associated with work done.

File Storage 

Departments housed in the Johnson Center and Student Union I or II requiring additional storage space for files that must be maintained by the university for a certain number of years may complete a request in the Student Centers located in the Johnson Center, Room 324 to store them in Thompson Hall, Room 145.

Inclement Weather Policy for Johnson Center and Student Unions

In the event of inclement weather and the university closes, the Johnson Center and Student Union II will open to provide services to the George Mason community. The full time staff members present during an inclement weather situation will be the designated Essential Employees. In the event that an emergency should occur when classes are not normally in session, such as during the semester break or spring break, the Johnson Center and Student Unions will follow the University closing schedule. This policy is only in effect if the University closes.
 
Inclement weather building hours when the University is closed:
Johnson Center and Student Union II 
7:00 am - 9:00 pm Monday - Friday
9:00 am - 9:00 pm Saturday
9:00 am - 9:00 pm Sunday
 *Student Union I will be closed.
Special Events Previously Scheduled
Student Centers staff will make every effort to accommodate large events such as conferences or workshops that have been previously planned. Each event will have to be considered on a case by case basis.
