Staff Development and Appreciation Day
Staff Development and Appreciation
Day for Johnson Center and Student Union Operations was on June
13, 2007. This was a time to reflect on how we serve our customers,
and what can we improve upon in the upcoming year. The day began
with ice breakers and "get to know you" activities,
along with some other fun. We then moved to a customer service
workshop in English and Spanish, providing our staff with some
additional tips and tricks to better serve the customer. After
the workshop, we moved on to lunch where there was an opportunity
for all the different units of JCSU Operations (JC, SUB I, and
SUB II) to meet and socialize. Throughout the lunch, we presented
some new awards for our employees: It was a successful day! We got
to know each other better, we learned some more customer service
tips and tricks, and we had fun!
George's Restaurant received new carpet and chairs should arrive by mid-September. Bistro received new track lighting to brighten up the place. Math Learning Center was relocated to JC 344 and now has much greater visibility. Multimedia Podiums were installed in JC meeting rooms A-G and the Gold Room. The LEAD office in SUBI now has a new home in room 222 off of Patriot’s Lounge. New ADA Capable ATMs were installed on Fairfax, Prince William, and Arlington Campuses. An ATM machine is now available in the President’s Park residential area and later one will be added to Chesapeake. Student Government, Jazzman’s in the JC, Paul Robeson Center, Patriot’s Lounge, and various public areas all received a new splash of paint. Work Request Form Website Is Temporarily Down

Johnson Center and Student Union Operations recently completed a departmental restructuring. There are four primary functional areas that are headed by the following positions and staff: David
Atkins, Executive Director of
University Services and Student Centers Technology
Support for Meeting Rooms in Johnson Center
There is a new technology change coming to the Johnson Center meeting rooms. In the past, some of our meeting rooms had been retrofitted with technology - including smart boards and LCD projectors - while others have remained primarily for meeting space. This was done through a joint effort between Operations and Classroom Technology. Through much discussion, Classroom Technology, who has supported the equipment for events in those spaces, is going to concentrate their resources on their mission of classroom support. With Operations now taking over responsibility for the technical aspects of these rooms, it is our hope this will help alleviate some of the confusion for support services. With this in mind, Operations has invested over $190,000 to upgrade and standardize all the meeting rooms. Each meeting room will have a multi-media podium, LCD projector and installed speakers for presentations. The user will be able to play DVDs, VHS tapes, and CDs and will also be able to easily connect his/her laptop to the system for presentations. The systems are designed to be very user friendly and easily controlled by the user. Each room will have detailed instructions on how to operate the equipment and how to contact Operations for troubleshooting, if you need any further assistance regarding anything from the technology in the room to the physical room setup. The Johnson Center has eight meeting rooms, A-G located on the third floor west side, and the Gold Room located across from Dewberry Hall on the East. The rooms vary in size and are great rooms for meetings and presentations for up to 60 patrons. Anniversaries

I
cant believe
the summer is already over! My time at George Mason has been short,
yet incredibly beneficial. I pursued an internship at this university
for several reasons: I have never been in a large university atmosphere,
the diversity of this campus is an attractive feature, and I wanted
to work with Mecca Marsh. When I met her at an ACUI conference almost
a year ago, I was drawn to her energy and passion for her work, and
I knew that we had a common denominator. I knew that Mason had things
I wanted to experience, and here I am!

As you all know, there is a new building being constructed near Student Union II. This game room will have table tennis, billiards, vending machines, flat screen television, board games, cards, lounge space, and much more to come in the near future.
