New Options Coming to Southside

Mason Dining is always working to take in feedback from students and provide the best dining services possible, whether it’s keeping dining facilities running smoothly or offering new and unique cuisine.

During winter break, Mason Dining is bringing significant changes to Southside.

To better accommodate students with allergies or other dietary needs, Southside will offer an allergen-free food station called Simple Servings. This station will be free of any cross-contamination from other stations that contain allergens.

Exciting new choices are coming to Southside in spring!

Exciting new choices are coming to Southside in spring!

To make room for Simple Servings, other food stations will be moved around within Southside, but all of Southside’s current food stations will remain. The student-favorite stir fry station will still be available. The waffle and toast section will be incorporated into the dessert section. Southside will also feature a station called My Zone where students can select gluten-free bread, pastries, and other baked goods. Southside’s salad bar will be renovated to include the deli, and custom and pre-made paninis will be offered.

Mason Dining is also working to improve seating in Southside. Most of the booths in the main seating area of Southside will be replaced with community tables to help reduce overcrowding.

These changes are expected to be ready for the spring semester, so after you come back from winter break, visit Southside to see what’s new!

GMU Gears Up for Election Day!

It’s been a long, winding road, but the big day is almost here! Election Day is Tuesday, November 8, and GMU has been the site of many exciting election-related events.

It all started with Lincoln Chafee, who announced his short-lived campaign at Mason. That was followed by the incredible Bernie Sanders event, and Hillary Clinton’s standing-room-only campaign stop in The Hub. Earlier this semester, Michelle Obama spoke at the Johnson Center on behalf of candidate Hillary Clinton. To the surprise of many students, Miley Cyrus knocked on dorm room doors to talk to students about voting for Hillary.

Students, who registered Mason as their polling place, will be able to vote on Tuesday in Merten Hall. Remember to bring a photo ID!

Watch parties have taken place for each of the three presidential debates in the Johnson Center, and Student Media will host a watch party on the evening of Election Day in the JC as the election results are counted.

We’ll host our own watch party at the Corner Pocket in The Hub on election night. You might as well as enjoy some games while waiting for the results to come in. If you come in wearing your “I voted” sticker, you get free popcorn and eight free game tokens.
